A Georgia Non-Profit Looks to Market Telehealth to Rural America

 – The Global Partnership for Telehealth has launched a new strategy to increase adoption of connected health technologies in rural and remote parts of the country. It’s marketing its own telemedicine solution.

The Georgia-based non-profit, a spin-off of the state’s 12-year-old Georgia Partnership for Telehealth telehealth resource center, recently unveiled Pathways, a web-based videoconferencing platform designed primarily for small and resource-thin healthcare providers, as well as schools and other entities looking to launch a telehealth platform but hesitant to wade into the commercial market.

Eswaran Hari, Ph.D
Primary Investigator

Dr. Hari Eswaran is the Primary Investigator and Project Director for the South Central Telehealth Resource Center. He is currently a Professor and Director of Research with the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology and the Center for Distance Health (CDH), University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS). His focus area of research pertains to biomedical instrumentation with special emphasis on fetal and maternal monitoring during pregnancy and has been funded for the past 18 years by the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Over the years, he has undertaken several non-invasive fetal monitoring studies and has published over 100 papers in these areas. He has served on several NIH review panels and at present is a member of the NIH Biocomputing and Health Informatics panel.

In addition, Dr. Eswaran is the International Telemedicine coordinator at the UAMS Center of Distance Health. He has organized various workshops in schools of technology, medicine, and nursing including joint Indo-US telemedicine collaborations some of which were launched by the former President of India, Dr. APJ Kalam. He has been part of several Scientific Committees and Advisory Boards related to global and rural health programs including the newly established Society for Education and Advancement in Research in Connected Health (SEARCH). Currently, Dr. Eswaran is an Interdisciplinary Research Fellow at a national leadership program supported by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) to equip teams of researchers and on-the-ground change agents with advanced leadership skills and a clear focus on health and equity, allowing them to apply health research and policy to meet the pressing needs of communities.

Dr. Eswaran received the B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees from the University of Delhi, India, a M.S. from the University of Mississippi, and his Ph.D. from University of Arkansas at Little Rock.
